GEOPOLITICS OF MEDIATIZATION: FINANCIALIZATION, NATIONAL BORDERS, AND DISRUPTIVE FORCES

Abstract

Donald Trump's tariff policy is leading to a revival of the issue of national borders. The mediatization of the resumption of national borders allows us to question whether the historical differences in the circulation of message flows are supported by approaches to mediatization in the Global South and North. Or are these flows taking on new meanings? The translation of tariff disputes into the local vernacular exacerbates alarmist versions that struggle to strengthen our particular position within the BRIC group and conceive as participants in the multipolar world. The financialization of the economy is perhaps the main news capital guiding the mediatization of Brazilian society in this context.
