Abstract

This article is based on the possible contradictions that suggest  the use of the term mediatization in comparison with the epistemology to which it refers and intends to define. In view of the quality of its basic reference, it can be observed:1. the original meaning referred to the circulation of information understood as simple transmission; 2. in its media root, mediatization is confused with mediation; 3. incorporating the sense of mediative set, the term refers to a media of media;4. also as media, the term refers to the sense of digital literacy as the latest technological trend of all media. In this plurality of possible meanings, the term remains dubious in relation to its meaning and, therefore, demands to be defined more clearly, even if it is understood that, like all concepts, mediatization can undergo a transition of meanings or even remain multiple in accordance with the epistemological context under analysis or according to the best communicative understanding of the interactive processes that sustain that understanding. The work was divided into 6 items that, when named, summarize the script of the analysis developed. The titles referred to are as follows: 1. A necessary prologue; 2. The name mediatization; 3. Mediatization and Media; 4 Mediatization: Pragmatic Science; 5. Mediatization and Technicality; 6. Mediatization and Way of Life. In the set of these topics, it is observed that mediatization refers, above all, to the epistemological challenge that underlies every communicative process; This challenge is, therefore, its maximum definition.
