Circuits of Hate in the Far-Right Mediosphere

Abstract

This chapter aims to study the media ecosystem of the far right in Brazil, focusing on how far-right media outlets utilize platforms within their specific context in the Global South. It will discuss certain particularities of the Brazilian communication landscape, characterized by platformization and intensive use of technologies, combined with economic underdevelopment and low levels of formal education and media literacy. Additionally, the circulation of hate speech and disinformation within this ecosystem will be analyzed, along with a critical examination of the consequences of this circulation for democratic societies.
