The ethic of ecovillages: sustainability in the mediatized environment

The aim is to discuss the incidence of mediatization as environment in the ethical and ecologically sustanainable conducts of ecovillages. The expansion of communication networks intensifies the unjust effects resulting from capitalist neoliberal globalization; on the other hand, it enhances the possibilities of civic participation in collective actions for an “alternative globalization”. Within this context, the ecovillage movement emerges. Through the media network system, the ecovillages share ethical principles which aim to raise human awareness about environmental sustainability. In view of that, we first approach mediatization as environment and its unsustainability within the context of capitalist globalization; following that, we describe the sustainable and ethical conducts of ecovillages, which appear as an alternative to the former scenario.
