Abstract

This study focuses on digital communication in Mozambique, exploring future trends, challenges, and opportunities in an increasingly connected world. The aim is to analyze the impact of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain in reshaping the country’s communication ecosystem, as well as to reflect on the role of communication in sustainable development, aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The methodology is qualitative, based on a systematic literature review of secondary sources, including scientific articles, reports, and official documents, with an emphasis on the African and Mozambican contexts. The findings reveal that, despite the growth in internet access and smartphone usage, challenges persist, including gaps in telecommunications infrastructure, information access inequalities, and a lack of technical training. However, there are also notable opportunities, such as the growth of tech startups, innovation in local content production, and the potential of emerging technologies to transform communication. The study proposes public policies to promote digital inclusion, including investments in infrastructure, technical training programs, and incentives for innovation, with the aim of positioning Mozambique as a leader in innovation in Southern Africa. It concludes that digital communication is a strategic pillar for the country’s sustainable development, requiring coordinated actions among the public sector, private sector, and civil society. Equitable and effective integration of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is essential to overcome challenges and harness the opportunities presented by the digital revolution.
