Abstract

In the context of deep mediatization in Brazilian culture, the aim of this article is to provoke reflections on the risks of the deepfake technique to democracy in Brazil. The pretext is to bring to light factors capable of casting doubt on the usefulness of democracy. The aim is to analyze how Brazilian democracy is presented by deepfake. Specifically: describe what deepfake is and its modus operandi; to discuss democratic precepts, representation and the rule of law; and analyze situations in which deepfake competes with democracy, in an exploratory and indicative way. Using as a parameter the theoretical contributions, above all, of Arendt, Braga, Gomes, Urbinati and Wolton. In the end, the analysis allowed us to infer that deepfake subverts the general will.
