Brazilian serious narratives and discursivity about female empowerment

Abstract

In this text, we map Brazilian series with female protagonists to verify which meanings related to notions of “female empowerment” are put into circulation. To this end, we reviewed the concepts of empowerment, mediatization, and circulation, interpreting that the media, with its discursive and imagetic products, collaborates in shaping how people can experience everyday life. In the mapping, we organized series released between 2010 and 2023 into thematic groups. Subsequently, we highlighted one work from each group to present an observation framework model. Thus, we obtained a sample of Brazilian series that portray independent women who overcome adversities through entrepreneurial attitudes.
