Cell phones and the 50+ experience: a reflection on mediatization, material culture and consumption
Keywords:
Cell phone, Mediatization, Older adultsAbstract
In the context of communication mediated by technologies such as cell phones, it is necessary to consider the aging of the population and the dynamics of exclusion / inclusion that go through it. This work is of a qualitative nature and focuses on a group of people aged 50 or over, subjects who experience constant technological (re) elaboration as a modifier of everyday environments. A semi-structured online questionnaire was applied and obtained 44 valid respondents. For the discussion, we bring Daniel Miller (2013), Giorgio Agamben (2009), Mike Featherstone (1995), Fausto Neto (2008), Braga (2007), Vilso Santi (2018) and Hajarvard (2015). Results indicate that the cell phone emerges as a centralizing tool for the interviewees' daily processes and is considered essential in their family and professional relationships.
